For the second time in my life my dogs have fleas while Mercury is in Scorpio. It looks as though we caught it very early, but yesterday involved all the tedious protocol and elimination rigmarole. Vacuuming and treating rugs (thankfully we have hard wood floors), bathing both dogs and quarantined bathroom situations, combing out the dead buggers afterward, and all the while cursing our stars, examining our faults, pontificating about the unusually warm weather, suspiciously saying “only bad things breed when it’s warm this late in the year,” and trying to decide which dog’s karma this was, why, or why it’s our karma, what we could have done, which one we’ve been too hard on lately, or which one is more likely the great attractor for little demons.
These are the kinds of lock-down, maddening, worried, suspicious, infested, loops that Mercury in Scorpio can easily symbolize.
This morning I woke up feeling confident about it; we had followed the rules an it would be over. Not the case. I found a little one crawling on the big one’s tail.
My wife is pregnant, getting ready to pop in the next weeks, neither of us are crazy about chemicals but even more so now…and now there is the strange feeling that we’re surrounded. Surrounded by invisible demons who jump like suicide bombers from one blood warm place to the next, laying eggs by the billions and slowly sinking us into madness.
I’m taking both dogs to the vet for oral treatment today, in the hopes that by catching it early (no evidence of flea poop or serious infestation yet) we’ll avoid a lengthy saga with these “things.”
I was laying in bed last night and it occurred to me that the last time a dog of mine had fleas, Mercury had just gone into Scorpio and my NYC apartment was suddenly a small horror movie for about three or four days.
Why? What caused it? Whose to blame? What’s the lesson? Or is there one at all?
The heightened sense that something is wrong and we should know why, or we should be able to see and perceive the deeper causal mechanisms at play in some situation we find ourselves in right now…especially the more unsettling ones…Mercury is being swallowed by the Sun in the sign of the Scorpion…
