Solar Eclipse, 12 degrees Scorpio November 3, 2013
Solar eclipses belong to family groups, known as Saros Series. Each Saros Series runs for approximately 1300 years. Different eclipses within a Saros Series group occur every 18 years. As the Sun and Moon align in Scorpio on November 2, they do so very close to the North Node, making this an almost total eclipse.
Mercury (retrograde) and Saturn are also in the mix, making this eclipse a potent alignment of four planets plus the node. The emphasis on 7 – 13 degrees of Scorpio is intense.
With the Sun’s light temporarily blocked, other forces and factors that would normally be hidden are revealed. Truths come to light, secrets are shared and even though these revelations might be uncomfortable, they make new openness and trust possible.
This eclipse belongs to Saros Series 16 North. In ‘Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and the Lark’, Bernadette Brady describes this eclipse family, or group, as bringing ‘inspiration or the illumination of ideas’. Brady says they offer ‘the sudden release of material from the unconscious which brings with it a great deal of insight. These ideas are good and the individual would be wise to act upon them’. Previous eclipses in Saros Series 16 North occurred in 1995 and 1977. The next will occur in 2031.
