Prince William's Transitional Year: Astrological Insights & Future Role

Prince William s Transitional Year: Astrological Insights & Future RolePrince William recently announced he was retiring from the RAF.

He has planned a transitional year, before making an announcement about his future public/royal role.

A quick look at his chart reveals his progressed Sun at 29 Cancer.

Astrologers know this as a time of transition, where the identity by which one has defined themselves shifts, so that as the progressed Sun enters a new sign, a new self is birthed.

I often make the same recommendation to clients when their progressed Sun is at 29degrees of a sign, that of a transitional year.

This is a powerful time of change, which leads to what I affectionately call ‘a personality transplant’.

It’s a total shift from expressing certain qualities to exploring new ones. It’s a great time to be curious about what you’re increasingly drawn towards, and allow yourself to step away from things that no longer grab your attention.

Progressed Sun Basics

The progressed Sun moves approx 1 degree per year of life, and thus will change signs between 2 – 4 times. How often and when the progressed Sun changes signs depends on where in the Zodiac the Sun was when you were born (at the start or end of a sign) and how old you live.

Prince William s Transitional Year: Astrological Insights & Future Role

If you can work out when your progressed Sun first changes signs, you can work out when it will next do so. Using Prince William as an example, he was born with the Sun at 0 Cancer. Approx at age 30, his Sun will progress into Leo, and then every 30 years from then it will change signs by progression. This is an eyeball approximation, but will get you in the ball park if you don’t have access to software.

Leo, The Sun, Royalty
Prince William’s progressed Sun is moving a little slowly – he’s 31 already but the Sun won’t progress into Leo until October 2013.

What’s great about this for Prince William is the Sun is very happy in Leo, so he’ll gain confidence, courage and leadership energy through this particular progression.

Leo is a sign associated with royalty and it’s likely his public profile will increase as a result of this shift. Settling in to the new desires and focus of the Sun’s new sign by progression can take up to 18months, so giving oneself time to adjust before making firm or lasting commitments is a great idea, hence the transitional year concept.

I hadn’t become as obsessed with progressions as I am now when my Sun last progressed into a new sign. But, being a Pisces – and thus having the Sun progress into Aries – I was very aware of this shift. I describe it as my ‘learning to say no‘ era, as the confidence of Aries helped me better manage my sometimes OTT go with the flow Pisces influences.

Do you know where your progressed Sun is? Where you aware of it changing signs? How old were you?
