I have been saying all year that 2014 is flying by and now it is December 1!
January feels like a lifetime ago, yet it also feels like 2014 has gone by super fast. It’s weird how time seems to morph like that isn’t it?!
I know it’s a busy month for many and so here’s a short n’ sweet look at some of the astro highlights of the month ahead. My goal with this is to provide a heads up as to what themes may emerge and when, so you can plan accordingly, or respond with a little insight.
If you are also familiar with your chart, you may be able to connect a specific aspect to a planet in your chart. If so, you will be especially sensitive to that alignment. That also applies if your birthday falls on one of the highlighted dates. The themes described then become a tone for the year ahead.
I have listed this astro events chronologically, so as the month unfolds you’ll want to pay closer to attention to the lower half of the list.

1) December 1 – 2, Mars sextile Saturn at 27 + 28 degrees of Scorpio + Capricorn
Productivity peaks as this hardworking pairing encourages focus and follow through. Be clear, set limits, make choices and get organised.
2) + 3) December 4 – 5, Venus trine Jupiter (22 – 23 Leo + Sagittarius) AND Sun trine Uranus (12 – 13 Sagittarius + Aries)
Excitement, insight and generosity will be themes. With all three fire signs activated there is movement and progress. Life may be fast paced but exciting. A flexible attitude will see you take advantage of an unexpected opportunity or last minute invitation.
4) December 5 – 6, Mercury trine Uranus (12 – 13 Sagittarius + Aries)
A bright idea may catch you by surprise. Think outside the square. Mercury is in detriment + combust so there may be something you overlook in your excitement. Go with the flow but reserve the right to change your mind.
5) December 6, Gemini Full Moon, 14 – 15 Gemini
A curious and social Full Moon which contributes to a fun and engaging weekend. A great weekend to host a party or end of year celebration. Lots of ideas, new connections and fun interactions. (Personally, I will be writing up Solstice + Christmas cards – Gemini loves to communicate through any medium!)
6) December 14 – 15, Sun trine Jupiter 22 – 23 Leo + Sagittarius ***
An especially lucky day! Generosity, big dreams and worldly ideas emerge. A lovely aspect for a party, shopping or giving back. More on this one in this post.
7) December 20 – 21, Mars sextile Uranus, 12 – 13 Aries + Aquarius
Both Mars and Uranus add energy so this can be a dynamic day, or a busy period. You can get a lot done, though it may not be what you planned. Leave a little room for spontaneity in your schedule as an exciting invitation is likely.
8) + 9) December 21 – 22, Capricorn New Moon + Solstice, 0 Capricorn
If you celebrate according to the seasons, this is the heart of your holiday festivities. The Sun crossing into Capricorn marks the Solstice, and is an important turning point in the annual calendar. Light and dark begin to switch places as the seasons turn. Change and refocussing is ahead, but for now, as the Sun stands still, it’s appropriate to pause, reflect and integrate.
With the New Moon so close to the Solstice, the next 3 months promise many new beginnings. This can be a season of turning over a new leaf, or clarifying your goals for the future. A step in a new direction will get you started down the right path.
10) December 23 – 24, Saturn into Sagittarius *****
This is arguably the biggest astro news of the month. Time keeper Saturn moves out of the deep waters of Scorpio and lifts his gaze to the horizon as he treks into Sagittarius. The astro vibe shifts from water to fire, and new possibilities emerge. For some this means laying to rest the turmoil and turbulence of the past two years. For others, it means clarifying the call to adventure and making a new commitment for the next two years. I will write more on this but suffice to say this is about a major shift in focus and priorities for all of us.
11) December 24 – 25, Mercury conjunct Pluto (+ square Uranus) 12 – 13 Aries + Capricorn
The Moon will be in Aquarius with straight talking Mars for Christian Christmas, which can help provide some healthy detachment at an otherwise intense time of the year. Adding to the spark will be a duo of Mercury aspects. Mercury + Pluto = the need for truth and loyalty. Mercury + Uranus can challenge the status quo or inspire you to create your own tradition, rather than follow what’s been done in the past. The more open + flexible you can be the more you’ll enjoy the astro over these 2 days.
12) December 26 – 27, Sun sextile Neptune, 5 – 6 Capricorn + Pisces
Personally I am quite looking forward to this dreamy and relaxed aspect at the end of the year. If ever two planets can say ‘holiday!’ it’s these two. Take it easy. Go with the flow. Escape everyday demands. Great for being away, or simply disconnecting from the demands of others. Watch a movie, spend time by the water or curl up with an inspiring book. Lose yourself in that which touches your heart and take the chance to stay low key wherever possible.
