As the calendar turns over to September 1, we enter the final third of 2014. (I know, I am as shocked as you are – this year has FLOWN by, but secretly I suspect that has to do with getting a little bit ahem older!)
Seasons are starting to change as we approach the September/Libra Equinox on September 22 (Canada + US)/ September 23 (Australia).
This turning in the natural world can invite an internal shift. If you feel called to adjust your focus – either to push out (more likely if Spring is in the air) or to pull back (more likely if it’s Autumn or ‘fall’ for you) – do so.
Inspired by September being the 9th month, here are 9 astro insights for the next four weeks.
1) Jupiter 14 – 15 Leo trine Uranus 14 – 15 Aries, September 21 – October 1
This is September’s stand out alignment, and promises bright ideas + breakthroughs. This supportive trine aspect occurs with both planets in active fire signs (Leo + Aries), so it will be a lovely time to visualise your goals or dreams, then follow that image up with action.
Jupiter and Uranus create an electric combination that can bring welcome change, exciting shifts in focus and lucky encounters with the unexpected. Authenticity + individuality are encouraged, as is conscious risk taking on behalf of manifesting your dreams. This aspect also acts as the prelude to an even more dynamic and golden grand fire trine pattern which occurs between October 3 – 9, and includes Mars in Sagittarius.

2) Pisces Full Moon at 16 Pisces, September 8/9
This inspiring Full Moon can help you trust your intuition, escape reality and explore your creative or spiritual side. Any Full Moon in a water sign evokes a mood, memory or sense of magic, though it can also be a time when you – or those around you – are more sensitive. Be gentle, with your own heart and others. Trust faith rather than facts.
3) Mars into Sagittarius, September 13 – October 26
The first half of 2014 had Mars below par in Libra, while the past six weeks have seen Mars obsessed in Scorpio. Starting now you get the chance to explore, dream and discover as Mars adopts his most adventurous and open minded self in Sagittarius. Use this time to get out of your comfort zone, visit a new place, try a new cuisine or open your mind to a fresh perspective. This is a think + do big vibe that encourages reaching for truth. Purpose, meaning and potential matter.
4) Sun into Libra/Equinox, September 22/23
As the Sun enters Libra it crosses one of four cardinal points. These cardinal points are the start of each of the cardinal signs – Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn. Each point corresponds to a key event in the cycle of the Sun, either an equinox or solstice.
In Libra, it’s an equinox , and themes of balance and equality can emerge. Re-balancing may be required, especially if life has become skewed in one direction. Other people matter so take time to consider how your actions may influence those around you. If in doubt, talk it out!
5) Libra New Moon at 1 Libra, September 24
I love a New Moon – it’s such an opportunity to wipe the slate clean, to start over or begin afresh. I’ll write in detail on this as we get closer to it, however, I thought it might be helpful to share a tip about working with new moons.
New Moons typically occur in successive signs, and if you know your chart, you can track the energy of a New Moon around the circle of your chart. This New Moon falls at 1 – 2 Libra. Locate the house in your chart which holds 1 – 2 degrees of Libra – the topics of this house are those areas of life in which you can begin anew at this New Moon. Next month, the New Moon is in Scorpio (October 23 – 24), which for most people, will be in the next house around in the chart. Next house will mean new topics.
In this way the New Moons trigger a growth sequence that invites you to refresh each part of your chart and life over the course of the year.
6) Venus into Virgo, September 5 – 29
Venus gets fussy about details in Virgo. The little things matter and love becomes more about small gestures of affection rather than grand expressions of feeling. Romance may have a simple quality, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less genuine. Tender acts of service can convey true affection.
Beauty wise, health and wellness matter more than the latest fads as Venus in Virgo evokes a ‘back-to-basics’ quality. Focus on efficiency where possible – you may discover beauty in the most basic of rituals. A love of order can help you better organise or streamline key areas of life.
7) Saturn retracing his steps, 18 – 23 Scorpio until late October
Currently Saturn in Scorpio is catching up on familiar topics as Saturn retraces his steps since his most recent retrograde. Saturn ended his retrograde in mid July, but until October 27 he remains in shadow. This means you have a couple more months to sort out any Saturn topics from earlier this year.
Saturn’s shadow connects September + October 2014 to the period between December 2013 – June 2014. If you have unfinished business from matters arising then, work on resolving things before the end of October if possible.
Heading into November Saturn pushes into the final degrees of Scorpio, cosmic ground he has yet to activate in this current Saturn in Scorpio cycle. This will shift Saturn’s focus to any planets in the last degrees of any fixed sign, (between 24 – 29 of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius). If you have planets in fixed signs at earlier degrees your tango with Saturn will be over for now; if you have planets or chart placements (like the asc or MC) at these later degrees you will be invited to dive deep and discover new truths under Saturn’s transit.

8) Mercury into Libra, September 2 – 27
Mercury is more diplomatic and less analytical in Libra. The focus here is less on facts, figures and organisation but rather a desire for togetherness, interaction and teamwork. Mercury in Libras is the diplomat and negotiation is top priority. Life, plans and relationships may be debated and discussed as you strive to understand events from someone else’s point of view. By the end of September, Mercury will be moving slowly, in preparation for his October retrograde.
9) Mercury into Scorpio, September 27 – October 10
Mercury dives into the depths of Scorpio and will seek truth, honesty and intimacy. This short visit includes Mercury retrograde, from October 3 – 24. It’s essentially a preview of what’s to come in November, when Mercury returns to Scorpio between November 9 – 29. Pay attention to what touches your mind now, and file key topics or profound curiousities to revisit in November.
