BDTB3 – Unveiling the Speakers Through Their Written Insight
In mid November I will be lecturing as part of the online BDTB3 astrology conference. To promote my lecture – on Firdaria – at the conference, I wrote the article below for the IAA newsletter.
I’m including it here in case you might be interested in the lecture, or in the conference itself.
If you’re curious about astrology, timing and your life, book a 60min Year Ahead Consult to experience the techniques first hand.
Timing Your Life By Kelly Surtees
One of astrology’s greatest gifts lies in its ability to highlight the start and end of important periods in life, and to describe how and why a particular point in time might be significant. Predictive astrology may be one of the most practical applications of our divine craft, though how it is used depends greatly on the heart of the astrologer applying the technique. I don’t believe predictive astrology is about creating fear, rather it’s a tool, like so many others, to help you – or your clients, friends and family – better understand the nature of any given time, and what endeavours it may be best used for.
Predictive astrology is one of my passions, and it offers many tools to help us explore the potential, possibilities and any possible pitfalls of a particular period in time.
Timing tools commonly apply a planetary energy, or symbolism, to a specific period in a person’s life. You may be familiar with this through the perennially popular technique of transits; however it may also be applied through symbolic or directed techniques, like progressions or solar arcs; or it may be used via a period timing system – like firdaria, annual profections, or zodiacal releasing – which identifies a specific planet as the ‘ruler’, ‘time lord’ or ‘chronocrator’ for a given period of time.
The secret then to being a productive predictive astrologer lies in your understanding of the planets, and the many shades of meaning they each offer. Part of this meaning comes from the essence or inherent qualities of each planet; part of it comes from what the planet symbolises in the context of a particular chart. The better you know the planets the more nuanced and comprehensive your forecasting work will be.
In my lecture, ‘Forecasting with Firdaria’, we will explore the timing technique of firdaria, which was popularised through the medieval period by Arabic astrologers like Abu Ma’shar and Al Biruni. You will learn a simple timing system applicable to either day or night charts (you will also learn what they are if you are not sure!) and discover how to personalise firdaria to each chart. We will also incorporate natal aspects and transits into the use of firdaria.
Since one can never know too much about a variety of techniques, I invite you to join me to learn about another timing tool, one that reflects an older view of life but one that will help with timing both short and long periods of possibility in modern life.
Kelly Surtees will offer her “Forecasting with Firdaria” lecture in the Traditional Track on Saturday, 15 November 2014 at 9:00 p.m. EST/Sunday 1:00 p.m. AEDT.
