Since rediscovering the library, I’ve been reading a more broad range of books. Books I wouldn’t necessarily buy are easy to borrow – after all, doing so costs nothing and if I don’t like it or don’t finish it, I simply return the book and am none the poorer.
Recently I had a reading week. It’s not quite the same as getting ready for uni exams, but in the life of a writer, perhaps somewhat similar. See, reading feeds writing so when I have extra writing projects on, I always stock up on extra reading material.
In this one week, I burned through three different non fiction books. (Yes, I am a fairly fast reader. Do I always remember what I read? Not at all. But I enjoy it at the time!)
– The Astronaut Wives Club
– A Sippy Cup of Chemo
– Impossible Odds
All very different, all equally engaging. Reading such a variety of real life stories reminded me of the power of story telling.
Much of my job as a consulting astrologer involves the privilege of sharing story – your story. Life is a story, and the stories you tell yourself change over time. Think about a recent event.
Do you tell the story as if:
‘ I did this or that because I……’
Or is it more like
‘ I had to do or not do because….’
Story can keep you stuck, or guide you forward.
How you tell your story, or describe recent, current or upcoming events can reveal your true thoughts, hopes and perspectives. It’s all in the language you choose, or the words and tone you use.
Think about a major experience in your life, good or bad. If you had to explain it to me – or a friend – in one paragraph or less, how would you do so? Write it out. Then, read it over, ideally out loud. What words do you use? In your story, do you aka the main character, sound empowered, or suppressed? Are you operating from a place of choice, or from a place where you feel pushed?
Can you change how you tell the story, or the words you use, to reframe the event? Or, do you need to take action or make a new choice so you can tell a more empowering story?
Your birth chart is a story telling tool.
It highlights the qualities of the main character though key factors like the Sun, Moon and Ascendant. It describes the talents and trials of life, perhaps through placements of planets like Jupiter and Saturn, or influential aspects.
The life you’re living is created through your actions, the way you tell you story and the way you make sense of life. Astrology can help you better understand facets of the journey, but ultimately it’s your path to follow.
