The most recent New Moon, in Cancer, was the first since Jupiter entered Cancer. Home, family and domestic themes are highlighted and the next 12 months brings growth in these areas. Mercury Retrograde
But with Mercury currently retrograde, it’s not all smooth sailing. The New Moon aligned with Mercury, effectively casting a spotlight on it, such that some of the classic Mercury Rx themes – like chaos, delays or miscommunication – are likely to intensify.
Bright Star, Bright Eyed: Sirius
The New Moon also aligned with the fixed star Sirius, the brightest star after the Sun. Solar Fire describes this star as ‘The mundane becoming sacred’ and this week is a time where small efforts can have a large impact.
Sirius is found at 14 Cancer and is connected to achievement and power. It’s a bright first magnitude star, that, according to Robson, has the nature of Mars and Jupiter. It’s associated with dogs and wolves, and symbolises honour, faithfulness, devotion (think of the loyalty a dog offers his master), and describes curators, custodians and guardians. Sirius is the alpha star in the constellation Canis Major, the Dog.
And if that wasn’t enough magic to inspire as this progressive New Moon week kicks off, Saturn has stationed direct and returns to forward movement.
Saturn Direct, from July 7
This is a huge energetic shift which brings release for patterns, projects or issues that have been stuck since mid-February (when Saturn hit the brakes and began to reverse).
Saturn’s first retrograde in Scorpio covered the period between 4 – 11 degrees. This means if you have any planets in a fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius) between these degrees, you’ve been dancing with Saturn all year. This includes you if you birthday falls between:
– January 23 – 31 (Aquarius 4 – 11)
– April 24 – May 2 (Taurus 4 – 11)
– July 26 – August 4 (Leo 4 – 11)
– October 27 – November 4 (Scorpio 4 – 11)

Mars enters Cancer on July 13, joining the water party. With Mars in a water sign, motivation is effected by mood. Act on your inspirations when they grab you, and give yourself time to rest or reflect as appropriate. Mars is in Cancer until August 28.
Water, Water Everywhere
This weekend also brings the start of one of 2013’s most inspiring alignments, the water grand trine. It’s about opening and softening and invites you to reach deep into your being for a more meaningful, moving understanding of truth.
Interestingly, this grand water trine occurs under the reflective energy of Mercury retrograde. It may well be a time to discover forgotten feelings, dreams or yearnings.
