The word "vu" is derived from the French verb "voir", meaning "to see", and is used in English as a suffix to form words that mean "seen or experienced before". It was popularised in the late 19th century by the French philosopher Émile Boirac, who used the term "déjà vu" to describe the feeling of having already experienced a present situation or event. Since then, the term "vu" has been used to create other words such as "jamais vu" (never seen before) and "presque vu" (almost seen).
