My Moon-in-Cancer-in-the-9 House man loves to read. He’s often devouring tomes on faith, philosophy – and history. One little gem I snagged from his bedside table is ‘The Seven Whispers’ by Christina Baldwin.
It’s subtitle is ‘A spiritual practice for times like these’, which aptly sums up the seven simple reminders she explores. One in particular popped back into my mind today – the one that’s about moving at the pace of guidance. I actually remembered it as ‘move at the pace of stillness’ but stand corrected after consulting Christina’s book.
Stillness
Stillness and a slower pace were naturally on my mind – the Moon is currently in Taurus, along with Mars, Mercury and the Sun, as we approach the upcoming Taurus solar eclipse. Paul Payne, who teaches some great astronomy courses for the public at Sydney Observatory, tells me this eclipse will be visible between 7.50am – 10.14am in Sydney.
So back to Taurus and stillness. This is the one sign where pace isn’t a good thing.
Taurus likes to savour the moment, to pause and deeply experience, through every sense, the present.
If ever there’s been a time to slow down, to off load and be still, it’s now. (The offloading is key as the South Node is activated by Mercury at this eclipse.)
Christina writes, “In a world of speed and distraction, pace of guidance invites us to combine the practices of measured movement and listening.” This means slowing down to fully witness whatever you catch out the corner of your eye. It might mean taking time to potter in the garden, play with your furry friends or be fully present with someone special. What wonder you might see in something you might otherwise have missed altogether.
“When we move at pace, we have time to question and time to listen for answers before moving on. It occurs to us to wonder what plans the Divine might have for us, in the midst of the plans we have for ourselves.”
Christina Baldwin
I offer her words to you, in the hopes that between the two of us, we might convince you to ‘move at the pace of guidance’ under this stillness loving Taurus eclipse.
We Interrupt Your Regular Programing…
When I teach, I often describe eclipses as ‘pattern breaking’. This is because an eclipse is a literal break in a pattern. Every two weeks, the Earth, Sun and Moon align such that there is a lunation – either a New Moon or a Full Moon. But every 6 months or so, the regular alignment is interrupted and there is an eclipse or two (sometimes three!). The usual lunation pattern is broken and something different emerges.
In life, you may experience a similar pattern breaking. I have a couple of healers I see at different times each month, to nurture body and spirit, but today I realised I would have to miss one appointment, and push back another. The reasons are a combination of my and their travel/work plans, and the result is that my normal routine has been interrupted. Simple, but classic eclipse. I don’t yet know whether this interruption to regular routines will be permanent – who knows what may emerge from the magic and mystery of the eclipse.
If you’re experiencing a type of pattern breaking I’d love to hear about it – pop your comments below.
Between the cosmic pattern breaking energy of the eclipse, and the insights the Divine whispers to those moving slow enough to maintain a connection to the little voice within, this time, this eclipse may bring a fresh energy and the release of tension you’ve been craving.
