An *aegir* is a sea giant in Norse mythology. He is the husband of Ran and father of nine daughters, the wave maidens. Aegir is often associated with the sea and storms, and is sometimes depicted as a giant holding a cup or drinking horn. He is also said to be the host of the gods at their feasts in Asgard.
