As I sit here watching the sun rise over the houses across the street I feel lighter. Things are shifting. Our first (relatively) warm days are here after the long, cold and dark winter. Birds are singing in the trees and it’s actually brighter, as days get longer.
We changed time this past weekend, onto daylight savings. Wherever you live, when daylight savings starts you know summer, heat and bright sunshine are around the corner.
Astro wise, things are also changing. This week brings the start of the last of the tumultuous squares between Uranus and Pluto. The. Very. Last. It’s active March 11 – 29 and then that is it. From April, Uranus will move forward faster than Pluto can stay in touch. Transit wise, these planets will operate independently.
Cardinal Signs: 8 – 15 Degrees
This Uranus square Pluto aspect has shaped the astro landscape since June 2012. If you are a cardinal sign – Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn – this has been especially potent for you.
The exact degrees in these signs that have been triggered by this square are 8 – 15 degrees. If you have your Sun between these degrees in a cardinal sign you have personally been influenced by this aspect. That said, even if you’re not a sun-in-a-cardinal sign, you might have your Moon, Venus or Ascendant at these degrees in a cardinal sign. You too will have been directly touched by this aspect. If that’s you, life has been radically re-shaped in the past three years and you have likely experienced some intense challenges. If so, I’d love to hear your stories!
To add spice to this dynamic aspect, Mars in Aries will trigger Uranus and Pluto this week (peaking on March 12). This week brings high intensity, passion, pushing and some drama. (Technically, Mars will conjunct Uranus and then shortly afterwards square Pluto, between 14 – 15 degrees Aries/Capricorn.)
It could be volatile but more likely it’s about getting things done. And not just regular every day stuff, but big things. New things. Projects that lead to breakthroughs or challenges that help you overcome a past barrier and push ahead into a brave new world.

The Square: Students Demonstrate
A square is about adjustment. When I teach squares in my astrology program I always ask two students to volunteer to 
demonstrate this aspect. (Actually, I do this for all the aspects, but for today, let’s focus on the square.)
I ask them to stand close together, but at a 90 degree angle to each other. This means one person’s right leg will be close to the other’s left leg. If one person is facing north, the other could face west or east, so their view crosses the others’ path.
I ask them both to try and take a step forward at the same time. They bang into each other. This is the energy of a square. It’s awkward and can be frustrating, especially if you don’t negotiate.
What a square asks you to consider is an alternate path. It can reveal a necessary adjustment to help you move forward. If one student waits and lets the other step forward, progress is possible. They can alternate steps and then both will be on their way. But some interaction or discussion is needed to facilitate this.
Your life may be a little like this during the week. You might have a set plan, but it could bring you into a clash or kerfuffle with another’s set plan, or with external circumstances. If so, pause and discuss. There is a way forward; you might just need to be open to working out the best way to do so. Hence, a square aspect requires adjustment.

- Take action (Mars). As they say, ‘fortune favours the brave’. What you do acts as the catalyst or trigger now. Don’t wait, be proactive.
- Be authentic (Uranus and to an extent Pluto). Don’t play someone else’s game; reclaim your power (totally Pluto!). Strike out in a direction that’s meaningful for you, even if it surprises others (Uranus).
Astrologically the final hit of an ongoing aspect brings culmination and resolution. Long term projects are completed,
and new opportunities present themselves. In your life you may notice one issue or theme will fade into the background. You might also notice new and different desires emerge.
Just like the energy of spring (after all, Aries, the first sign, is highly involved here!) it’s as if the cosmos invites you to rebirth, refresh and refocus.
