Slowing Down
There’s so much to say about this ‘slow down’ cycle! Let’s start with the synchronicity that it happens over the holidays, which is a classic time for pausing. I for one am taking it as a sign to have a rather still or quiet end of year period, totally scaled back to basics.
In addition, Venus is in station between December 14 – 28 and then again from January 27 – February 6. These station points can be the most frustrating as it’s like Venus is stuck. This in turn can mean Venus things – beauty, love, art, indulging, stuff to do with money – are also stuck or on pause. Delays indeed!
So, what to do? Pause. Be patient. Be kind. Consider others. Given Mars is in Libra, a sign of accommodating, it’s important to compromise. Harmony comes through working together, rather than standing alone.
40 days + 40 Nights
Venus retrograde is a time of reflection. The archetypal 40 days/40 nights in the desert/wilderness links to the length of Venus’ retrograde. Through this time we are meant to take time out and turn our attention inwards.
Whether you’re on retreat or just a few days off, it may be useful to scale back non essential commitments. At this time of 
year you may have a break from work or regular routine, and this down time experience may be a little more intense or introspective this year.
Modern culture is often about more, more, more. It’s about unending continuity as if that somehow feels safest. In reality life is full of stops and starts, with a few twists and turns thrown in for good measure.
Consider this Venus retrograde as your personal time of stopping, twisting away and going within.
Yes, delays with love and money are possible. But it’s also possible that you will reassess what you love or value. That you may adjust your actions so they better reflect you.
But first, you must dive into the belly of your being.
