Here are some preliminary thoughts on the current changes in Aussie politics. I look at Rudd, Gillard and the swearing in chart of Rudd’s take two on being PM.
As a general note, all this change has occurred as Mercury stationed retrograde – or started his most recent backwards cycle. On FB I suggested this means what happens now will change, and all the facts are yet to be revealed. This is only Act 1, with more to follow.
A Recycled PM
Kevin Rudd, as described by news.com.au this morning, the ‘recycled’ PM!
When I first started looking at Aus political charts this week, my thoughts were to explore the Rudd/Gillard tension.
Australia’s Sun/Saturn Conjunction
I felt things would come to a head as Jupiter ingressed into Cancer and moved into an opposition with the Aussie Saturn/Sun conjunction, (from the 1901 Federation chart, at 7 and 10 Capricorn respectively), exact between late July and mid August. (Note – this will be after Mercury ends the retrograde and moves through shadow.)
Interestingly, these degrees are heavily affected by both Pluto and Uranus between February 2011 – and March 2014. This may explain some of the intense chaos and change regarding government and leadership in Australia.
I’ve previously written about Rudd and Gillard’s charts here, so in this piece I’ll focus on the current cycles and triggers.
Kevin Rudd
In mid April 2013, the secondary progressed MC in Rudd’s chart entered Sagittarius. The change of sign by the MC indicates new energy, direction and goals regarding career and life direction. Jupiter is placed in Libra in Rudd’s 10th House, and is currently being opposed by Uranus. Radical changes indeed.
But, under Uranus things are unlikely to last, and given the progression of the MC out of Scorpio into Sagittarius, the indications suggest something new or different going forward, and that gaining freedom is key. Since Rudd’s already had this job, it begs the question, what next?
Uranus continues activating Rudd’s Jupiter (and his ascendant ruler Saturn, at 8 Sagittarius) until January 2014. Combine this with Rudd being in the secondary progressed third quarter Moon Phase, and reorientation and change is likely.
I can’t help but notice Rudd’s secondary progressed descendant is conjunct natal Pluto and wonder whether this is some kind of face saving exercise – or dare I say it, revenge – for what happened in 2010?!
To sum up: Kevin Rudd is here for a good time, not a long time.
Rudd’s Swearing In
Rudd was sworn in at 9.51am June 27 2013, in Canberra ACT. Time thanks to Gregory Clare’s eagle eyes.
Adding weight to Rudd being around for a short time is the stationing Mercury, ruler of the MC in the swearing in chart.
This suggests changes ahead within the government, such that what was set down today will change as Mercury moves through and out of this current retrograde cycle.
The Moon Phase in the swearing in chart is waning, and when something is on the wane, it’s losing it’s grip. This could refer to either Rudd as leader, or the Labor party as the party in government. Or both!
In addition, the Moon is void of course, and its last aspect was to Mars. A void Moon suggests ‘nothing will come of this’ and so if the intention was to change leaders to win the election for Labor, this may be difficult. The separating aspect of Mars may speak to the battle and separation or divisiveness of what’s gone on to get Rudd to this point. Definitely not warm and cuddly!
The ascendant ruler of the swearing in chart, the Sun, is tucked into the 12th house, which may indicate behind the scenes dealings and a general lack of transparency. Neither the Sun nor the MC ruler suggests stability or longevity.
To sum up: there will be a new swearing in relatively soon, with a different PM. (I know the election must happen by November, so this likely means a new Aus leader).
Julia Gillard
Julia Gillard, who was the Aussie PM from June 2010 – June 2013.
Mia Freedman wrote it best re the impact Julia Gillard as the first woman PM in Australia has on girls and women of all ages.
However, looking at Gillard’s Chart, mid May – mid June 2013 suggested some kind of upheaval or change, to do with security, money, international connections and home, as Uranus moved into the first hit of a sextile to her Gemini Moon (in the WS 8th, ruling the WS 9th).
Interestingly, like Howard in 2007, Gillard also resigned her state and will leave politics as a result of this defeat. Gillard was first elected in 1998, so she has served a half Saturn cycle, about 15 years.
Gillard showed us what she was made of in the infamous misogyny speech from late 2012, which she gave around the time Saturn conjunct her Mercury in Scorpio (Mercury rules her MC/career point). The seeds planted then may ultimately provide a path forward, but with her secondary progressed Moon about to enter slow and steady Taurus, some quite down time to recuperate is probably appropriate.
That said, Gillard’s secondary progressed Moon is in the waxing cycle, so this won’t be the last we see – or hear – from her. Jupiter into Cancer aligns with her 9th House, so expect speaking tours, writing – a book? or even some overseas travel or international opportunities.
I was next going to blather on about Tony Abbott, but I have just found out the data I had for him is incorrect. I’m also curious re Malcolm Turnbull. Stay tuned!
