May 2024: Navigating Intense Astro Energies - Uranus/Pluto & Eclipse Season

May 2024: Navigating Intense Astro Energies - Uranus/Pluto & Eclipse SeasonMay has been an interesting month. It’s not over yet, but the peak of the astro energy has been reached.

Double Trouble
May’s double trouble energy combination included a pass in the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square, (exact Monday May 20, but in effect until June) while in the midst of Eclipse season. Each of these influences separately is dramatic and calls for change. Put the two together and lets just say things are intense in the extreme.

This is not the same as things being ‘bad’, more like heavy, steady or unrelenting. The Taurus influence ensures these qualities lead to productivity,  through the earth connection.

Uranus, Pluto, the 60’s and Now
Uranus and Pluto’s ongoing dance represents the waxing square in a cycle that began with their conjunction in the mid 60’s. I wrote about how the drama Mad Men plays into this here.

The Uranus/Pluto square moves through exact passes between mid 2012 – early 2015. 2011 and 2016 are like fade in and fade out periods, where the longer energy begins to activate, or slowly subsides. The cycle has peaks and troughs within that 2012 – 2015 time frame, one of which we’re in right now. 11 degrees of cardinal signs – Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn – are the zodiac hotspots.

The themes of rebellion and revolution planted in the mid 60’s demand progress now. No matter how far the collective has come, there is demand for more. It’s time to take things to the next level.

Uranus/Pluto invites rebellion, and encourages change that creates freedom.

This isn’t about change or power for the sake of being in charge, more it’s a window of time in which the innovation of individuals (Uranus in Aries) can create radical change within even the most conservative of established traditions and institutions (Pluto in Capricorn). Power to the people indeed.

‘Tis the Season – Eclipse SeasonMay 2024: Navigating Intense Astro Energies - Uranus/Pluto & Eclipse Season
Each eclipse season lasts 6 weeks, and represents a window of time where normal patterns are broken and new possibilities emerge. The current eclipse season started on April 18 and ends shortly after the next eclipse, on May 26. We have three eclipses in this current season, which hasn’t happened since mid 2011. The number of eclipses combined with the drama of the Uranus/Pluto square has combined to make this a period of extremes.

The remaining eclipse, at 4 degrees Sagittarius, is a tiny slither of an eclipse. While it’s infleunce may be minor, it’s still enough to send ripples through the establishment. In Sagittarius, this eclipse highlights truth, justice and ethics so be preapred to act with integrity. For more general information on eclipses, see my Eclipse Fact Sheet.

Late Taurus
Adding further cosmic pressure has been a steady stream of planets through the later part of Taurus, where one of the more difficult fixed stars is placed. In predictive astrology I often find Algol (26 Taurus) active when clients are in an especially trying period. Traditionally this star was associated with losing one’s head, which in the past may have meant being beheaded, but today often means going a bit berko with stress or anxiety.

This May includes the following activations to Algol:
Venus, May 6 – 7
Mercury, May 13 – 14
The Sun, May 16 – 17
Mars, May 26 – 27

A fellow astrologer, Kate Petty, has a fascinating write up on Algol on her blog here.

Double Delight
This weekend, while an eclipse weekend, also brings a sweet triple play as Mercury, Venus and Jupiter align in Gemini, around 21 degrees.

Venus and Jupiter together have many positive connotations, some of which have to do with luck in love, adventure, travel, study, teaching and learning. The nature of Gemini is multifaceted, and so variety is key but distractions are likely.

While Jupiter isn’t strong in Gemini, the ruler of Gemini, Mercury joins the triple play. Since it occurs in Mercury’s sign, this adds positive potential to the weekend’s line up. The slight nature of the lunar eclipse means there’s lots of cosmic light to provide clarity and insight, and that

following your curiousity is key to partaking in whatever celestial delights are on offer.

Cosmic Loops
This weekend’s eclipse falls in Sagittarius, which is ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter is involved in a triple play with Venus and Mercury.

Cosmically, one thing leads to another and with so much potential on offer, genuine actions and heartfelt choices can’t help but lead you somewhere sweet. Double trouble is about to turn into double delights.
