Discover True Happiness Through Self‑Awareness

The Mirror of Self-Awareness

When I ask you again to look impartially and carefully at this thing you call your life and how miserable or difficult it is, understand once and for all that it’s going to unravel as it will. Life is something that happens to you; it is not you.

Life is a mirror — a whole series of reflections taking place. Some reflections appear good and some bad, but the mirror itself has nothing to do with any of them. Is the mirror affected? No. The reflections are there, the stories are there, but what I am asking you to consider carefully is: to whom is all this happening?

You think it is happening to the body you consider yourself to be. Yet finding happiness through self-awareness is the key theme here.

Freedom Through Understanding

The only freedom lies in understanding that this is not who you are.

You are either a body–mind process, or you are an eternal spiritual being — that which is processless. Take your pick.

The eternal spiritual being is not affected by events, just as the mirror is not affected by the reflections within it. Stop believing the story is you. You do not feel it — your body and mind feel it. You perceive these sensations and then become entangled in them.

This involvement happens because you lack the discipline to step back and observe life as a spectator watches a movie.

The Movie of Life

When watching a movie you may become emotionally involved and even cry, yet you never forget that you are not the characters on the screen. You are the observer.

Similarly, you think you are living life, but in truth you are being lived. If you truly had complete free will, would you choose a life that you describe as miserable? Probably not. Life unfolds as it does.

Once you surrender to the flow of life, you become free of it. Just as the mirror reflects images without effort, awareness perceives experience naturally.

You Are Awareness

The process of perceiving is your nature. You are identifying with what appears in the mirror of awareness, yet what you truly are is Awareness itself.

The body, the mind and the feelings are objective phenomena. You are simply observing them.

You are the mirror. Nothing is actually happening to you.

Ask yourself an important question right now:

What is wrong with this moment if you do not think about it?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing is wrong with the present moment when it is experienced without the interference of thought.

The Trap of Thinking

Thought often drags us into memories of the past or fears of the future. Thinking divides reality and creates duality.

Love, however, is pure being. Being does not require thought.

Thinking is conceptualization. It superimposes stories upon the present moment.

When thought is necessary for practical tasks, it serves a purpose. But most thinking revolves around personal stories — “Why isn’t life like this?” or “Why did that happen to me?”

These thoughts separate you from what is. And what truly is, is love.

Living Fully in the Present

Stop recreating the story of suffering. While events unfold, deal with them as they arise.

When a real crisis appears, you do not think about how miserable your life has been. You become completely present and respond to the moment.

That is the lesson.

Be fully present now. Drop the past, release the story, let go of fear and apprehension. Be here as conscious presence — awareness itself.

This peaceful awareness is your true nature.

The Only Place Is Here

You are always dealing with only one moment.

Forget yesterday. Forget tomorrow. Focus only on what is happening now.

The only place is Here and the only time is Now.

You will never exist anywhere else.

The Power of I-Am

When you recognize the simple sense of “I-Am,” it is like the point of a pencil. From that tiny point, an entire canvas can be drawn.

Likewise, the sense of I-Am projects the panorama of your entire universe.

Return to that essential awareness. Pull back from time, space and objects, and return to awareness itself.

What can be said about it? Nothing more than this:

It is simply Being.

Trust Life

When you ask, “What must I do?” the answer is simple: trust life and allow it to live you.

Trees grow without effort. The tides rise and fall without thinking. Your heart beats, your lungs breathe, and your body regenerates without conscious effort.

Were you responsible for dividing the cells in your mother’s womb? Did you control the growth of your body after birth?

Life unfolds naturally.

The Illusion of “Me”

Consider this carefully: what exactly do you mean when you say “me”?

Last night when you were in deep sleep, where was this “me”? It was not present.

Yet you still existed.

The sense of “me” is a fabrication — a thought that appears and disappears.

Your true nature is pure presence and awareness.

Relax Into Being

You cannot stop being what you already are.

Beingness is always present as a silent background — just as a movie screen remains untouched by the images projected upon it.

Relax into that awareness and stop struggling with life.

Why search for happiness in the future when this moment is already complete?

The Eye of the Needle

Imagine trying to pass a frayed thread through the eye of a needle. If the thread is split into three parts it will never pass through.

The three strands represent the past, present and future.

True happiness requires releasing attachment to all three and resting in the simplicity of now.

Desires and the Present Moment

Desires will arise and pass away. The body has needs — food, rest and shelter. Allow these natural desires to occur without becoming entangled in them.

Like clouds drifting across the sky, experiences come and go. Yet the sky itself remains unchanged.

Remain fully present in this moment.

When you do, life begins to bring what is needed without the strain of constant desire.
