Two hollow reeds
sparing the wind
its passage
and saying yes
or saying no
like wind over water
Mercury’s homestead
and the first hands
of musical haven
the first words
of angels in the forest
Teach me how to
speak, teach me to see
your thoughts
teach me to hear,
the holy word
changing ears
left and right
until static and signal
are separated
held out like two candles in outstretched hands
I’m telling you…
truth
is the single bird
of spring
Oh twins
standing ever at the gateway
the place where we left the fruiting garden
flashing swords
double edged
two young persons
ever inside
promise to lead us once outside
I’m asking you,
to dress us in your starry robes
and teach us the wisdom
of your double ivory gates
