Alveolar Capillaries: Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide Exchange Explained

The capillaries around air sacs (alveoli) take in oxygen from the incoming air and release carbon dioxide into the outgoing air. This exchange of gases occurs by passive diffusion, with oxygen moving down its concentration gradient from the alveoli into the blood, and carbon dioxide moving down its concentration gradient from the blood into the alveoli.
