Camelopard is an old-fashioned, archaic term used to refer to a giraffe. The word "camelopard" originated from medieval times when people believed giraffes were a cross between a camel and a leopard due to their long necks and spotted coats. However, this notion is erroneous, and giraffes are a distinct species belonging to the family Giraffidae.

"Camelopard" remained in use until the 18th century when the more accurate and current name "giraffe" gained wider acceptance. Today, the term "camelpard" is considered obsolete and rarely used except in historical or literary contexts.
