Mercury has FINALLY left Scorpio after a 2+ month sojourn through the world of mystery, truth and intimacy.
Between now and December 24 Mercury will move through Sagittarius.
Mercury is the planet of facts, figures, data and information. Sagittarius is a sign of faith, perspective and belief.
The difference between the two is that Mercury’s ideal is to focus on what is, whereas Sagittarius aspires to what might be.
Sagittarius is considered one of the sign’s of Mercury’s detriment. I love the description of detriment posted on Peter Burn’s website, that of a planet in detriment representing an ‘inconvenience’.
In Sagittarius Mercury is less able to focus on facts, and instead is drawn to consider the big picture, future plans and far reaching concepts. The inconvenience here is that facts might interfere with your big plans. Mercury in Sagittarius doesn’t want to let a few details get in the way of a good story, or the possibility of an exciting adventure.
All that said, there is a lightness that planets in Sagittarius activate that can be a welcome relief after the intensity and introspection of Scorpio. (If you’ve ever been aware of a planet progressing out of Scorpio and into Sagittarius you’ll know what I mean!)
Mentally the vibe looks upwards and outwards. Thoughts shifts from secret suspicions to hopefulness. In this season of giving, Mercury in Sagittarius may help you aspire to something greater, or more generous, than usual.
Whilst in Sagittarius Mercury is moving fairly quickly, so ideas and connections may occur spontaneously or in the heat of the moment. A responsive, flexible attitude can help you make the most of new possibilities, especially around December 10, when Mercury aligns with Uranus.
From December 16 until January 8, 2014 Mercury will be out of bounds, and operating in a more wild card, trickster manner. Normal rules may not apply then – use this information wisely!
Mercury may not be able to act as he prefers whilst in Sagittarius, but he will do the best he can. If dealing with data or details begins to seem tedious, consider how the little things fit into the big picture.
