Prophecy of Teiresias:
1. Guidance to the Underworld: Odysseus had to descend into the underworld, Hades, to consult with Teiresias. Teiresias' prophetic gift remained intact even in the afterlife.
2. Avoiding Scylla and Charybdis: Teiresias warned Odysseus of two dangerous sea monsters he would face on his journey. Scylla, a many-headed monster, and Charybdis, a giant whirlpool, lay between the strait near Messina, Sicily. Odysseus had to choose a dangerous path to safely navigate his ship.
3. Cattle of the Sun God: Teiresias foresaw that if Odysseus' crew harmed the cattle of Helios (the sun god) on the island of Thrinacia, their ship would be destroyed, and all crew members except Odysseus would perish.
Prophecy of Circe:
1. Fate of the Companions: Circe warned Odysseus that some of his crew members would remain trapped on her island, Aeaea, because they succumbed to her transformative magic.
2. Phaeacian Aid and Return: Circe directed Odysseus to travel westward until he reached the land of the Phaeacians, who would provide him with a ship and assistance to help him return home to Ithaca.
3. Caution Against Suitors: Circe advised Odysseus to be cautious when he returned to Ithaca, as there were suitors courting his wife, Penelope, and they plotted against him. She hinted that Odysseus would eventually prevail against them.
In both prophecies, both Teiresias and Circe helped Odysseus navigate the challenges ahead and ultimately made his homecoming to Ithaca possible.
