Shiva New Moon in March 2024: New Beginnings & Spiritual Growth

It will be the new moon this Wednesday, March 2 at 09:35 am PST.

It will be aligned with the constellation Aquarius (sidereal astrology). It invites us to create new paradigms and rethink the world we wish to live in.

Jupiter will accompany the Sun and Moon, bringing a touch of positivity, optimism and spirituality, and heralding the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces, which will occur April 8-13 and will pour forth a flood of much needed and well-deserved spiritual and divine energies!

Each year, the New Moon in Aquarius marks the "Shiva Ratri", the great night of Shiva. Hindus fast and chant mantras all night. Shiva brings purification and rids us of all that no longer serves us.

The new moon will take place in the lunar constellation (nakshtra) called Shatabhishak, which means "a hundred remedies". It is related to healing, more specifically to plants, and it is a good time to start new remedies. The symbol of this constellation is a white circle, conducive to meditation and silence. We may feel more like being "in our bubble" during this new moon period.

This year it is an exceptional New Moon, because we are witnessing a "Yuga Yoga": all the planets are in two constellations, Capricorn and Aquarius. This alignment brings a lot of intensity, which we will have to channel! These two constellations are ruled by Saturn and are associated with the first chakra. This is the time to work on our deep fears related to survival and basic needs. Drum work is good for opening the first chakra, which gives us the confidence that life will take care of us, wherever we are! Saturn invites us to equanimity and to remain centered regardless of external circumstances.

Mars has just entered its sign of exaltation (Capricorn) until April 7, which occurs about every 2 years for about 1 month. The warrior is at full strength, which is favorable for taking action, fighting injustices and opposing forces, doing yoga or martial arts (martial comes from Mars). Unfortunately Mars is also the planet of war and its association with Saturn and Pluto could be somewhat explosive. Finally Mars is associated with the police and the military, and these could be more present in our lives until April 7. Capricorn being a sign of authority and power, we could feel the weight of state structures limiting us!

Especially since there is still that Kala Sarpa yoga (all planets between the lunar nodes) until March 8 and from March 22 to April 2, which can bring a feeling of restrictions, of an emotional roller coaster, of not being in control of our destiny.

From February 27 to March 6, there is also a Venus-Mars-Pluto conjunction that will bring deep transformations in our relationships, a lot of relational intensity. Beware of power struggles! In short, we are in exceptional times, let's use the spiritual tools that the sages have given us to go through this time with serenity and confidence!
