Recently I stumbled (again) across this brilliant TED talk by Elizabeth Gilbert. It’s about creativity, and the importance of showing up for your art.
Gilbert discusses the ancient idea of a ‘genius’, as well as how she and those around her manage inspiration and the artistic life. It’s a must watch!
And if you’re curious about Gilbert’s chart, she’s a Cancer, with the Sun conjunct Mercury. Gilbert has Mars in Sagittarius (hello Eat, Pray, Love + globe trotting!), as well as Jupiter and Uranus conjunct in early Libra. Her Moon is in Virgo, and in the New Moon Phase.
Personally I loved Eat, Pray, Love, and enjoyed Committed.
Gilbert’s latest book, a novel, is fabulous. I read it over the holiday break and would highly recommend it. It’s called ‘Signature of All Things’. I didn’t think I would like it, as I’d not read her fiction before (though she is the author of the piece upon which the movie ‘Coyote Ugly’ is based!).
I found SOAT to be exceptionally well written, and a story well told. I couldn’t put it down and even though it’s long, read it over 2 days.
Over to you. What are your thoughts on creativity? Have you read anything great lately?
