Karma Unveiled: Dadhichi Toth Explores Awareness and Life's True Essence

Karma, Awareness and the Dream of Life

On the issue of Karma, we often look at the suffering of the world while forgetting first and foremost that we ourselves are part of that world.

We are subject to universal laws — the laws of action and reaction, cause and effect, karma and transmigration.

Yet beyond these laws there exists a higher principle: the awareness of one’s own Self as pure Presence.

In that position of awareness, nothing is truly happening. It only appears to be happening, much like a dream at night in which countless characters, events and experiences unfold and seem entirely real while they are occurring.

The Dream State and Divine Reflection

The dream state is an emulation of the divine condition.

The Divine is simply asleep and dreaming. This is why the original text of the Christian doctrine states that God created man in His image.

But what is an image?

When you look into a mirror, what is real — the image or that which is reflected?

The reflection is never real in itself. It is only an appearance.

Therefore the true practice is not to become absorbed in reflected images, but to remain as the mirror itself — awareness.

Life as Appearance in Awareness

Within this world of time and space, we perceive suffering, birth, death and everything that unfolds between those two extremities.

Yet these are phantasmagorical appearances within the dream.

The deeper question then becomes: who is the dreamer?

The dreamer is the highest Self — God — and human consciousness emulates that same natural process.

Astrology and the Limits of Space-Time

Astrology helps, but only insofar as it functions within the dimensions of time and space.

The planets are objects moving around the Sun at specific frequencies, distances and cycles.

Astrology therefore describes events within the dream — the unfolding mechanics of time, space and consequence.

Yet higher astrology teaches a deeper truth: just as the wheel turns around an unmoving centre, the centre of the horoscope never moves.

The planets move, but the highest Self remains still.

The Centre of the Horoscope

We are that centre.

From awareness itself, all appearances arise — including planets, thoughts, identities and worlds.

Still, within the dream we seek to understand what is happening, what consequences actions may bring and how past causes shape present experience.

Astrology reveals these patterns by showing the precedent causes behind present conditions.

Enlightenment as Awakening

The horoscope also indicates moments when awakening becomes possible.

This is what is called enlightenment — awakening from the dream.

Sometimes even within sleep, one becomes aware of dreaming.

That sudden recognition — “Hang on, I am dreaming this” — mirrors spiritual awakening in waking life.

At that moment you realise: all these images are appearances, and I am the dreamer awakening from them.

Maya: That Which Is Not

In the Hindu Vedic tradition, the word Maya literally means “that which is not.”

Every image within life — you, me and everyone else — has a nature, a personality and tendencies that astrology can describe.

But these appearances are not the ultimate truth of who you are.

They are reflections only.

As images appear in a mirror, all forms appear within awareness.

Space, Time and the Mirror

A mirror only an inch wide can reflect vast distances.

A beach stretching ten miles appears within that tiny surface.

Likewise, space and time themselves are projected appearances.

What seems immense may arise from nothing more than awareness itself.

Time Is Relative

In a dream lasting seconds, an entire eighty-year history can unfold.

An old man may appear and describe his whole life story within moments.

This demonstrates that time is not absolute but relative.

This insight echoes Einstein’s understanding of relativity, but must be recognised within personal experience to become transformative.

Transition and Timeless Awareness

All transition occurs within time.

But timeless awareness itself never changes.

What is eternal cannot transition, cannot become something else, cannot improve or decline.

Therefore whatever is changing is not your essential Self.

You were never truly born, and you will never truly die.

The Moon, the Mind and the Sun

Astrologically, the Moon represents mind — the sense of “me.”

Yet the Moon only shines because it reflects a greater light.

That greater light is the Sun.

Likewise, the sense of personal identity is borrowed light.

It reflects a deeper source.

The question becomes: from where does awareness arise?

Tracing Awareness to Its Source

The mind can be observed like an object.

Therefore something beyond mind must be perceiving it.

That same presence perceives dreams, waking life and even dreamless sleep.

It never sleeps.

It remains awake, aware and observant.

Being Rather Than Doing

No guru, no reading and no technique has value unless it brings you directly to this point of recognition.

This is why many spiritual teachings declare that God, Guru and Self are one.

This is not something to practise as an activity. It is already what you are.

There is no doing required — only being.

Krishna and the Four Temperaments

The Bhagavad Gita describes four spiritual temperaments, each suited to different disciplines.

Some are naturally intellectual, some emotional, some active, some devotional.

For the active temperament, Krishna gives a clear instruction:

“Whereupon the mind of a being finds satisfaction, thereupon let it rest.”

This means that when action is performed in love and total absorption, time disappears and the sense of separate doership vanishes.

Karma Yoga and Egoless Action

If music is your path, then become fully absorbed in music.

If service is your path, become fully absorbed in service.

When action happens without the sense of “I am doing,” it becomes Karma Yoga.

In such moments, ego fades because there is no mental claim over the action.

Love must be present, otherwise time, resistance and suffering immediately return.
