Match? Tinder? Bumble? There are so many dating apps out there (and so many people) that it can be hard to know how to cut through the noise.
People are turning to zodiac signs to help with chemistry and compatibility. But, here’s some news. It doesn’t work. I’ve been an astrologer since I began my career at ELLE and Vogue in my twenties and it’s never worked.

Why Sun Signs Don’t Work for Compatiblity
Victoria Beckham is an Aries. She married a Taurus. No match. None.
Yet, Sir David Beckham and Lady Victoria Beckham have been together for 27 years. Okay, he had an alleged affair, and they’ve had issues with their son – but they are nearly three decades into a famous partnership.
As an Aries she’s supposed to be with a Leo or Sagittarius. As a Taurus he’s supposed to be with a Virgo or Capricorn. At least if you believe those tired, old (totally wrong) compatibility guides. How about Kate and William? She’s Capricorn. He’s Cancer. Opposite signs. They are supposed to clash with each other. Nope. They’re a team. (Photograph: Dreamstime).

What about Meghan and Harry? Leo and Virgo. Again – no match. Except it is.
So what’s really going on with these signs you are hoping to date – and how can you choose a person wisely?
The trick is, it’s about what they’re going through. And what you’re going through. And that’s something that really does work.
Step One: Know Their Life Right Now
The Sun Sign (or Zodiac Sign) is not helpful when figuring out emotional chemistry or sexual compatibility. What it is great for, however, is understanding why someone might be dating; what his or her priorities are – and what their situation is.
This is the kind of thing you don’t see on the astrology profiles for Tinder, but I can quickly show you exactly what’s going on, if you know the person’s sign.
I’ll walk you through your sign, and his or hers. What you’re doing here is reading their ‘weather’ or their current life climate. That way you know what to ask them about. (And what to avoid). I’m sure you’ll recognise yourself here too.
By the way, if you’re a Premium Member, and have a question about a date, your chart will show up when you use the Comments section. If you tell me their sign (the basics) I can give you some possible astrology answers, just using that information.
The Aries Date in 2026
He or she is a good bet from June 30th onwards, especially if you want children, or already have them. Aries is being offered the biggest and best parenting or step-parenting opportunities in 12 years. (And that might be you). Their profile, photograph and appearance (when dating) may confuse you. They are confused themselves. They’re not really showing you reality – so there may be a filtered image, say, or a hide-my-baldness cap and so on. You won’t really care unless you’re totally superficial, but Aries is going through a muddled profile cycle. It’s the same with how they sell themselves in terms of their name, job and so on. (Be aware of more than a little escapism on their part, when showing you their packaging).
The Aries date now is also in a radical change zone with their brother, sister or cousin. It’s only just started, but if you want a nice, relaxing, comfortable evening – you may want to avoid asking them if they have a sibling, say. Or cousins. There’s too much going on!
Friends are another sensitive subject. And any group they are involved with. Especially social media. There is all kinds of politics taking place. Lots of power and control issues. It’s intense. If you want a laidback, fun evening you may want to swerve that curve. This is especially true from the last week of July, when (depending on their age) karma from the past, 18 or 19 years ago, comes back. If you ask to meet their friends, or who their best friend is, be aware of that. Aries is in a complicated cycle there.
The Taurus Date in 2026
It’s all about the money, honey. Finance and real estate, business or charity, are central to the Taurus person. It’s how they shine, or how they feel so exposed – so ‘seen’. As Taurus is now in the most unpredictable, unstable financial cycle of their lives, you may want to avoid overpriced restaurants or bars. Even rich Taureans are going through this cycle and just knowing – that they don’t know what’s coming next – can affect how they feel about an expensive date. What does work, though, is your house or apartment. Did you know that? Especially if they could end up with two homes not one (your place/my place) or even get serious about combined real estate.
It wouldn’t hurt to tell them your neighbourhood (if it’s tempting) for example. Or show them a photograph of that antique chair you just refurbished. What not to talk about? Their religion. Their counsellor. Their possible depression or anxiety or insomnia. It’s confusing for them and for you! The other big one is work politics. Or university/college complications. Or unpaid work intensity. This has been building for them for a while.
Their family circle is set to expand and improve in 2026, 2027. It’s their good karma. If there have been issues with relatives, they will clear up and if things are basically positive, there will be new babies (say) or long-lost branches of the family tree turning up, or new in-laws and so on. So do ask about family. Do encourage them with their renovation, or redecoration or property dreams. It’s their happy headspace.
The Gemini Date in 2026
Dating a Gemini in 2026? Their brother, sister or cousin is central to them. It may be for all sorts of reasons, but you need to know that this is a big year for either a) resolving issues or b) taking a good thing and making it bigger; better. Think Noel Gallagher and Liam. It’s a going concern and you need to care about it. If it goes further with you two, take a weekend getaway. Short journeys are lucky for them now. What’s confusing them? Social media. Their social lives. Their friends. Any groups, clubs or teams. They have no boundaries there with someone so be aware of that (and alcohol or drugs will make it all even more confusing).
If he or she suggests a party with their friends – you need to know that there could be blurred lines. Your Gemini date will also switch his or her appearance more than once by next year. Why? Because they can. They feel free, doing it. So if you start with a blonde you may end up with a redhead. Curvy could become skinny. The final kicker about the Gemini horoscope is some foreign involvement, or a foreign country in their life, or a different accent/nationality/language in their world. This runs deep with them at the moment. It’s complex and it’s very challenging. So if you two are from different cultures? Well, this may actually be you! Gemini is figuring out how powerful they are (or how disempowered they are) via other nationalities in 2026, so you need to know that.
The Cancer Date in 2026
This person is absolutely about the money or house/apartment, ongoing and sooner or later, it will come up. Everybody knows you don’t discuss income or real estate on a first date, but the numbers really matter to Cancer on these current cycles. Their home or property investments always matter to them anyway (it’s how they shine – or not). However, you are now dating somebody who sees every sexual relationship as a financial relationship, with deep questions about who has the upper hand, or who has the controls. In fact, they may be dating because they broke up with someone over money recently. The other likely scenario is that a family member (perhaps a parent or sibling) has complex financial or legal paperwork with them at the moment. If you’ve come along at the right time, you may in fact be their gateway to saving or making money by 2027! They won’t want to enquire, but in their heart, they need to know.
Your Cancer date is also in a confusing career, academic or (unpaid work) phase which isn’t completely real. Trying to pin this down or clarify it could mean you are there all night, grasping at what Cancer doesn’t completely understand either. The other thing they’re probably not telling you, is that there is tremendous change happening on the inside. It might be religion. It might be counselling, or their dreams, or their psychic side. It’s private and probably happening alone, but it’s not a stable part of their life, as it used to be.
If you are right for them, and they are right for you, then you two will make a financial and/or real estate commitment over the next 12 months. That’s actually the core of it all.
The Leo Date in 2026
This person is single because he or she went through a deep question about power and control in their last relationship. The stakes were high and it didn’t work out. The partnership in question was about who had control; who did not. So. Do not ask about the ex, although Leo might tell you! This is a very long cycle so you need to make sure that you are not part of the next complex relationship, as all Leo’s concerns with empowerment (or lack of it) are being played out with partners in 2026, 2027.
Their best bet is in being one half of a power couple. So if you qualify (you are both different, but equal in terms of clout and influence) you’ll soon figure out that it’s destined. If the scales are lopsided and unbalanced, though, this isn’t it. Karma from 18-19 years before will kick in for Leo with partnership, too, from the end of July. This is age-dependent of course, but older Leos may find the past comes back in some way. A repeated theme which reminds them they never really got closure all those years ago.
If you are foreign, or from a different cultural background, Leo will secretly zoom in on that. He or she is going through a cycle when another language, accent or nationality (you weren’t born here or your parents weren’t) is an extremely big deal. That cycle is a triple Aries transit in the Ninth House and it only happens once in their lives.
The Virgo Date in 2026
Oh, the karma from the past! Luckily for you, dating Virgo, it ends in the final week of July. Until then they continue to go around in circles with their partners, hearing the same thing and seeing the same thing. If you turn up in their lives from late July you may even represent the change they have been seeking. What happened to them with partners (if they are the right age) 18-19 years ago still follows them around. At least for the next few weeks.
The other huge deal in their lives is their distant past. Between 2008 and 2024, their relationships, their dates, their pregnancies, their children, other people’s children (stepchildren) transformed them. Virgo went through deep, life-changing experiences as a parent, or even just as a lover, when they had to face classic Pluto cycle questions. Did they have any power in the situation? Had they given their power away? Did they have control? If not who actually had the control, and so on…Tip. They will privately want to tell you everything about the last person, or the second last person and hold it back. Until they trust you.
2026, 2027 is going to be therapeutic for them. They’ll gain from a counsellor, or religion, or Tarot, or spirituality, or meditation, or just by being alone. Maybe that segues with your interests too. If so, you’re onto a good thing.
The Libra Date in 2026
Unplanned, unwanted pregnancy is a risk for Libra on this long cycle, so be aware of that. Maybe wear condoms, on your condoms. Of all the 12 signs they are most likely to change their entire lives, by becoming parents or step-parents, in 2026, 2027 and beyond. It won’t just be ‘having a baby’ or ‘being mum/dad’ – it will completely transform their very existence. Perhaps because it’s such an intense part of their destiny, well past 2030, you do need to get real about why they have children, if they want them, how they feel about children they have – and any offspring of your own. Maybe not on the first date, but it has to come up sooner or later. Their path to power, or not feeling as if they have power, is the decision they make about parenting, from July 2026. In fact, it’s karmic.
What works beautifully for Libra in 2026, 2027 is their social life. Their clubs, teams, bands, groups, societies, political parties, charities, choirs and so on. The gang. If you are already a friend you could be so much more. If you share friends or are happy to go along with his/her community of pals, it’s a growing concern and a going concern.
The partnership zone of their chart is confused and confusing. No boundaries. This may be their ex, so you absolutely need to be clear about lines that can’t be crossed. If you feel you have fuzzy boundaries with Libra even after a first date, keep alcohol or drugs out of it. Neptune cycles are more muddled with substances. And Libra has Neptune in his or her partnership zone for a long time. Saturn is there until 2028. So keeping it real and as clear as possible, as often a possible, is a good idea. Find that anchor. Know those flags.

Dear Jessica, I am a pisces and now for many years single. The final years my daughter lived with me I seperated from my last partner and never since met anyone, whom i could get to know. I’m afraid you are not logged in so I can’t see your birth chart. Use the Tarot and I Ching on my website to give yourself a dual reading. We are all headed (the entire planet) for 12 months of Jupiter in Leo, starting on June 30th, which is a wave of new opportunities to date and mate, and also elevate the situation with/for children. I’m a Cancer Sun. There’s a stuck family financial situation involving an elderly relative. The family member managing it is a Cancer. My Leo partner is trying to get clarity but keeps hitting walls. Is there a point this year where this kind of dynamic shifts or opens?
You are lucky to be pursuing this with another Cancer Sun person. The power and control issue with the elderly relative and the finance is undeniable, but there will be a compromise eventually, more likely in July-August 2026 and then January-February 2027. This comes at the absolute perfect time for me. I am a widow of 4 years and over the last six months I started slow consistent contact with a friend of my husband, whose engagement broke off around 12 months ago. He was in a deep grief and I was coming out of my own shock. I was not looking for a relationship. We’d meet every so often in September, then October, for a meal or coffee or a walk. Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes (and I used to write chick lit for Penguin!) You lost your husband; his friend found you; he was jilted (or jilted his fiancee) and he also reads the Tarot. Just a few days ago he stopped communicating, for which I am very sorry. No doubt he has been reading for himself, where you and your son are concerned, and something he saw in the cards persuaded him to stop. You had a slow burn friendship and chemistry so it must be very sad for you that this has been halted. The good news is, you are a Sun Leo woman with a Leo stellium in your Fifth House of courtship, bed and children. I am a 1982 Sun Leo, and how you’ve described the most recent relationship ending for Leo is exactly correct. I now have an Aquarius man in my daily circle and we have a very obvious attraction to each other but it’s moving very slowly. He is a little younger than me, and I get a sense he is either hesitant or nervous. You recently told me on a previous post that I could easily have sex with him and that he is set to surprise himself (I have two children and he has none, so I imagine I am not his usual “type”)
I was hoping through this post today you might be able to expand on that possibility. When I met him in August last year I felt an immediate sense of recognition that this man would somehow be part of my future, but then I sometimes talk myself out of it thinking I’m just imagining a fantasy.

The Aquarian has major issues about being a father (or not) which began just a few days ago and will continue for years. Thus the hesitation. Your two children are the reason he is moving slowly. There will be big questions there about his independence in that situation; how much freedom and space he has, given that you are a parent. LucyThanks Lucy. You are a Sun Taurus woman with Taurus, Aries and Scorpio stelliums. There will always be a big difference between your life budget and that of any partner. Taurus shows up as your own money, house or apartment, values (especially your values) and who/what is so precious to you, it is priceless. Yet, very likely with your former husband, and certainly with partners in the future, there is a wide gap with the other person’s point of view; their own bank account, real estate and so on. You had Uranus in Taurus emphasise that 2018-2026 and next up, Chiron and then Saturn in Taurus will once again underline the difference between your approach to finance and that of a partner. An easy way out is not to go there! In other words to keep separate accounts, separate properties and so on. You have also been in rather a stuck, repetitive cycle with dating. That ends in the final week of July. Mid 2027 to mid 2028 gives you your best opportunities in 12 years to find more of what you want, in the bedroom, and to be much more fulfilled as, say, a potential stepmother. You don’t say if you have children, but if you do, that period is also about overdue improvement in the parent-child relationship. Later on, Jupiter (the planet we like to see) goes into Scorpio and your Seventh House of commitment, in your solar chart, and in your natal chart, your Eighth House of financial or real estate commitments. Thank you, that’s kind of you to say. Starting with your solar chart as a Sun Cancer, you are in line for a commitment based on real estate and money, with major questions about sharing the power, as Pluto transits your Eighth House of sex and money, for about another 20 years. I should add ‘death’ to the Eighth House as it is about binding agreements, until death do us part. Is this also showing up in your natal chart? Yes. You have a stellium in Scorpio, so despite being a Cancer Sun, you are strongly Scorpio and have that level of intensity, passion and extremism which the poets write about and the Go-Betweens made records about. Scorpions mate in a promenade a deux, you see. Yet, you would not be yourself if you were not going to lock yourself into that kind of dance with a new person. It will be offered to you. There are a chain of dates in the years ahead when that will be the case; I should have thought Jupiter in Scorpio would be the big one, as it will be in your solar Fifth House of sex and romance, and in your natal Eighth House, as described above. It’s great you are learning prediction. Conjunctions and stelliums are always first; the other aspects are second. For example, you have a stellium in Cancer so you ‘live’ in your Fourth House of home, family, real estate, household, home town and homeland. It’s who you are. You also have Apollo at 22 Cancer. He is sextile Chiron at 22 Virgo in your Sixth House of wellbeing and workload. When transiting Jupiter goes to 22 Cancer from May 21-26 you will see a rare oportunity for growth and overdue improvement. I hope you can see I am using your stellium here; the conjunction; also the aspects. Jupiter will automatically sextile your natal Chiron as he passes through. Put all that into plain English and there is an enormous open door with your people or your place on May 21-26 (or close to it; we allow a one-degree orb). This automatically helps you take the lead, as you were born to do (Apollo). It also allows you to experiment with what you can get away with (Chiron) in terms of your workload and wellbeing. Okay, so we start with your solar (Sun Sign) chart. You have family karma here which stops in the final week of July. The South Node in Virgo is passing through your Fourth House of relatives and the extended family circle. This always brings stuck, repetitive situations which do not change, no matter what you say and do. Why? Because it encourages you to change your personality and attitude, to feel better about it. And doing that makes you a better human. You become more tolerant. More philosophical. Wiser. In any case the loop ends when the South Node is out of Virgo, July 28th. The last few years particularly with the North node in Aries and now Pisces have been tough. And a bid for a new home as failed as well, in spite of Jupiter in Cancer. Why am I so blocked?
Okeky dokey, so you have a Leo stellium in the Fifth House, which includes Saturn (always a test) but also a large stellium in Libra in the Seventh House of marriage, divorce, separation and de facto partnership. The Seventh also rules equality between men and women (or a lack of equality which disturbs the balance of the scales). So there is more going on here than just your Fifth House. There is in fact a huge difference between your Fifth and Seventh. In the Fifth you can have one-night-stands, for example, or be chiefly concerned with unwanted pregnancy, or a partner’s unwanted pregnancy (for example) but on a more committed level, if there is a steady relationship or commitment, the Fifth tends to be about the long-term drive to be a parent, or to avoid it. This affects everything else. The Seventh is much more about a legally binding contract between two people and doesn’t necessarily involve issues about parenthood at all. When you say ‘blocked’ there may in fact be aspects with Leo or Libra which suggest inner conflict about men (I presume it’s men you are asking about). You were born with Mars at 16 Cancer in the Fourth House of family, household and real estate and it is at the sharp end of a T-Square with your North Node at 15 Libra in the aforementioned Seventh House and the South Node at 15 Aries in the First House. A T-Square is indeed an internal blockage so you have picked up on that. A T-Square is always tense, tight, tricky and ‘traffic’ which gets jammed within. So the part of you that wants to push hard, be first, compete and win (at home, or over property) is not functioning with the part of you that wants an equal partnership (Libra) and even legal marriage (Libra again).
