Saint Bernadette was renowned for experiencing a series of visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lourdes, France, starting in February 1858. At the age of 14, while gathering firewood in the Massabielle Grotto, Bernadette encountered a lady in white, whom she identified as the Immaculate Conception. These apparitions continued over a period of several months, capturing widespread attention and attracting numerous pilgrims to the region. The Church formally recognized Bernadette's visions, leading to the establishment of the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes and its designation as a major Marian pilgrimage site. Bernadette eventually joined a religious order and became a nun. She is now widely venerated as a saint within the Catholic Church and is celebrated as the patron saint of Lourdes, the sick, and the shepherds.
