I’m rejoining the land of the working after a few days off on staycation. It struck me this whole staycation phenom is rather Jupiter in Cancer, which places the planet of travel (Jupiter) firmly in the sign of the home (Cancer).
What could be more stay-home-and-enjoy-in-new-ways-rather-than-travel than that?
We were inspired by this piece, in the Globe and Mail, on how relaxing at your parents may be more of an escape than travelling somewhere exotic. While we didn’t exactly hole up at the parents (we don’t live near either of our family homes!), we did however choose to take time off, but stay local.
While money and time factors played into our choice, ultimately we wanted to stay close to home. We’ve already been overseas once this year, and have trips scheduled for September and October. So for July and August (aka Summer here in Canada) we decided to stay low key.

As a result we have more thoroughly enjoyed our home, relishing time in the sun in the backyard. The garden’s bounty has been fully appreciated, and we also explored parts of Toronto neither of us had ever been (how pretty are the Toronto Islands?!)
Yet, all this staycation-ing got me thinking as much as an actual holiday does. Thus, it must be as relaxing, if it allows time for unfocused thoughts and random questions to emerge.
